The SDK provides tools and documentation on how to access the Application Program Interface (API), which allows your application to share data with a QuickBooks data file. This means that you could develop an application which could enter transactions into QuickBooks, generate reports from the existing data, or even export the transactions for use by another application. It also allows you to create menu items and other Graphical User Interface (GUI) controls.
Transferring transactional data
QuickBooks supports transfer of transactional data via a proprietary form of XML. This is facilitated by the SDK which is available upon approval of your application available below under Membership Levels.
There is another form of data transfer which is described in the QuickBooks help files. From the Help drop-down menu, open the help index and search for "IIF". There is sufficient information provided here to build simple transactional data transfers. Please note this format is being phased out and is no longer supported.
